This PhD is investigating the mechanical properties of the tendon in an attempt to characterise the changes between healthy and diseased tendon. This involves measuring the response of both types of tendons to loads experienced within the body. Using the Artec Spiderâ„¢ scanner in the AAL, the tendon shape is able to be recorded at various loads and will be used in the development of computer models of tendon behaviour. It is hoped this information, together with microscopy and histological studies, will identify potential factors that lead to tendon degeneration and help inform future studies into prevention and treatment.
