MAYRA CANO – ARTIST IN RESIDENCE, AAL
Nina Sellars facilitated the first AAL artist in residence, working collaboratively with Mexican artist, Mayra Cano, from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Mayra had attended Nina’s 2013 workshop, Drawing Away the Skin/Revealing Hybrid Bodies, presented in Mexico as part of Biomediations: Transito_05, which is the largest new media festival in Latin America. Mayra was AAL artist in residence for 3 months, September – November 2014, funded by Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Through her arts practice, Mayra is working with Nina to explore the affective dimension of medical rationality in relation to the contemporary notions of the body in Mexican culture. Whilst at the AAL lab Mayra also experimented with using the 16 micron resolution 3D printer, manipulating organic forms.
